I'm back. I won't go into any details but some stuff happened that put me in a mental state in which I couldn't really draw. I wasn't anything too serious, everything is fine now.

I've recently found a program called MagicaVoxel, which is a voxel drawing program, voxel being a 3d equivalent of a pixel. The very first thing I did once I downloaded it yesterday was to make a model of Celine, the main character from Hapax Legomena, my other webcomic which is in an indefinitely long hiatus and might only come back once Empty Hallways is finished. Despite being from a pretty much abandoned project, Celine is currently my favorite original character, maybe tied with Heather, which incidentally I also modeled in MagicaVoxel, after I was done with Celine.

Here's an imgur album where you can check it out: https://imgur.com/a/PipFM

This is very reminiscent for me of old point and click horror games. Not exactly Deep Sleep, but something along the lines. I used to play a lot of stuff like that on Newgrounds. Watch out for Freddie's towel, Owen!

Those voxel renders are pretty cool. If that program's as good as it looks, I might try using it.

I wasn't particularly engaged in Hapax Legomena so far, but it will be nice to see it come back and read more of it. I've had all kinds of rough patches during webcomic production, including a pseudo one of those in December which put my comic hiatus on hiatus. So yeah, I understand. Webcomics are surprisingly hard to keep up, even when the characters are stick figures, as Swb taught me.

Oh, MagicaVoxel is really fun to play with. There are a few features I whish it had but unfortunately it doesn't -- for example, being able to change the default directories, which I got around by putting shortcuts to the directories I want to use inside the ones the program uses --, but they aren't essential, the program does what it is supposed to really well.

I was messing around with the render settings with a simple model I made just for testing, and I ended up making this. It may not look like it, but the model is just a series of concentric square tubes inside each other. What you see is a trick of the lighting and the material's properties -- an optical illusion, if you will.

Oh, and also, the only point-and-click horror game I have ever played is Clock Tower for the SNES, which is one of my favorite games ever, despite being painfully slow and a bit buggy. I actually managed to not only play it through to the end, but got all possible endings -- including the secret one.

Funny thing, just a few days ago I've learned to play the repeating pattern in the game's main theme on the piano, just for fun.

Comparing this page to the last time she was shown, she's smiling more than she was before. A creepy smile is even creepier when it's a slow creepy smile.

Did you just assume their gender!?

I'm kidding of course, but in this case by saying "she" you're actually making two different assumptions. 1) That it's somehow actually Owen's mom, and not someone or something else and 2) That it even has a gender, which would require it to be (or have been at some point) a living being.

Not saying either of these are not true, just that there is no way of knowing at this point. Owen may or may not be right in calling it "this thing".

So "grey-man-thing" might not be an accurate description either?

Owen calls it a man because it looks like a man, but who knows what it is, really?

A statue of a person obviously has no gender, but people assign a gender to it anyway depending on what it looks like.
